A brand new Mitsubishi ASX car will be up for grabs this weekend at Ruiru Sports Club where the par 72 will be hosting the third leg of the 2018 Crown Paints Golf Series.

And because of the car being offered as a special prize for a Hole-In-One, and other juicy prizes, the event has attracted a field of 250 golfers who will be battling it out primarily for the grand finale at Muthaiga in November.

The series dubbed “The Silicone Stableford Challenge 2018’ and being held across east Africa as part of the firm’s celebrations to mark 60 years, comes to Ruiru after visiting Nakuru and Kiambu in April.

From Ruiru action will shift to Eldoret om June 23, while other events will take place at Nyanza Golf Club (July 7), Royal (July 21) and Muthaiga (July 28).

Karen Country club will host the series on August 25, before Sigona, Arusha Gymkhana host the series on September 1 and 22.

The remaining two events will take place at Nyali Golf and Country Club and Uganda Golf Club on October 6 and 27 respectively, before the grand finale on November 24 at Muthaiga.

The winner of the final will get a four-day golf tour to Marbella Spain courtesy of Crown Paints.

Ruiru Golf captain Peter Mwaura said: “We are glad to host Crown Paints in this year when the organization marks this milestone. The stage is set for the tournament, with the course playing relatively well and golfers from across Kenya lined up to play.

“It’s going to be an interesting day as everyone seeks to secure what all golfers hope to achieve one day - a hole in one.

“The designated hole will be a surprise to all golfers but it will definitely be worth the challenge,” said the handicap 17 Mwaura, who will be among the players to watch.

Crown Paints PLC Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Rao said golf was part of the company’s corporate responsibilities which has been a key pillar in uniting the company with customers across the board to be able to understand better ways of either improving services or understanding customer’s needs.

“Through this series, we are able to strengthen our working relation with customers across the board for the growth of the business in the region,” said Rao.

Meanwhile, besides club captain Mwaura, other local golfers expected to put up a strong fight, going with their recent form include Benard Omondi, the handicap two and club champion, Michael Chege (20) and Christopher Kiai (19).
