The New Year Golf tournament at par 72 Thika Sports Club has attracted a field of 123 players including some of the club’s single figure handicap golfers like Simon Ndungu, and David Matano.

In Machakos, the nine-hole Machakos Golf Club course will host a field of 116 in the New Year Opener, an annual event sponsored by club captain Munyao Kamba and his friends.

They will be battling it out for more than 12 prizes on offer by the new captain Munyao Kamba who marks his third week since being elected for the third time in 17 years.

STAUNCH SUPPORTERS

The event will welcome back one of the club’s staunch supporters Kimanzi Muthengi who has been away in Lilongwe Malawi over the past three years.

During the Christmas Golf tournament a week ago, Cleophas Makau carded 37 points to emerge the overall winner in a field of 85 players, beating Willy Muvea by a point while immediate past captain Dee Kivuva on 34 points finished in third place.

The three plus some of the club’s leading players such as Jackson Nzioki, James Ndunda, Larry Wambua, club chairman Collins Kaloki and the captain himself Munyao Kamba will be all out to try and grab the overall prize.

Vying for the ladies prize will be Veronicah Kona, Jane Kiiti and Machakos County Women Representative Susan Musyoka.

JANUARY MUG

The par 72 course has since then improved hence high scores are anticipated this weekend. Down at the Coast, Nyali Golf and Country Club will usher in the year with the January Mug and the ladies medal which has however attracted a small field of about 50 players.

The Mwaka Mpya tournament at Kakamega Golf Club has drawn Mumias-based professional Dismas Indiza.

Meanwhile, Kiambu Golf Club recently elected a new team to led the club activities.

The new board will be led by Eddy Njoroge, who was elected chairman, taking over from Mburu Kimani.

Elected as vice  chairman was Njeru Njagi, a past captain, while leading the golf section as the new captain will be  Njenga Mbugua assisted by Sammy Muriu.

“The new team understands the needs to take the club to the next level. We will rekindle the fire of the most patronized club in Nairobi zone,” new chairman Njoroge said.
