Handicap 21 Kioni shines at Njoro Club

  • Kioni won the weekend’s event by two points from the Eldoret-based Kitur who carded 39 points as Njoro’s top amateur Nelson Koech, playing off handicap three, carded 19 points each for 38 points, beating G. Kariuki on countback to finish third.
  • The nines went to T. Muruguru (20) and Dominic Walubengo (22), while Kitur and Clem Muli won the longest drive contest with Kitur also winning men’s nearest to pin award.
  • Some 1,000 trees were planted during the tournament.

Nakuru Golf Club’s Francis Kioni emerged the best in the inaugural APEC Consortium limited sponsored tournament at the nine-hole Njoro Country Club course at the weekend.

Playing off handicap 21, Kioni, fought off a stiff challenge from single-figure handicap golfers Aaron Kitur from Eldoret and Njoro’s Nelson Koech, to clinch the overall title with 41 points.

It was Kioni’s third victory since December 2017, the player having won Kurutu Open in December and Catholic Lent Golf Day title in March at Nakuru where he also finished third in Johnnie Walker series with 39 points.

At Ruiru Sports Club, handicap 21 Lawrence Ng’ang’a combined 15 and 21 at the tough playing par 72 Ruiru course to win the annual Samuel Njinu tournament with 36, the lowest score this year at Ruiru.He beat men’s winner Frank Munyuah and Alex Machocho on countback and leading the ladies was Irene Wamoro with 32 points, winning well ahead of Margaret Kamau(24) and Ruth Muthoni (23).

The nines went to Samson Mwongela and George Ndungu on 20 points each. Caroline Muthiga was the guest winner with 35 points.
