Handicap 27 Mbugua beats huge field in Ruiru

  • Paul Muhia won the gross on 32 and the guest prize went to Anthony Mwangi on 37 pointsand Sam Onyambu was the staff winner with 38 points.
  • Felistah Njeri and Paul Aweyo won the nines on 21 and 22 points.

It was the day for high handicappers at the par-72 Ruiru Sports Club where out -going chairman Fr Wilfred Mwaura hosted a large field for his end of term (Chairman’s) Prize sponsored by real estate developers Empire Realtors at the weekend.

And it was handicap 27 golfer Josphat Mbugua who produced an excellent 45 points made up of 22 in the first nine and 23 at the back to beat men’s winner Henry Mwaura, also a handicap 27 golfer, by three points.

There was however a big gap between Mwaura and the second-placed Johnson Waweru who carded 36 points, two better than Patrick Theche.

The scores were however low in the ladies section where S. Patel on carded 33 to win ahead of Catherine Wambui and Lucy Njuguna both on 31 points each.

Things improved a bit in the guests category where Moses Karanu won with 35 points while the lady guest winner was Maria Muthee on 31 points.

Longest drive

Peter Mwaura and Frank Munyuah won the nines on 20 points each with Bernard Omondi taking the longest drive award while Irene Wamoro took the ladies prize.

At Nyeri Golf club, Wanjau Gathuri emerged top in the Dedan Kimathi Memorial golf tournament with a score of 41 points.

He won ahead of Joshua Maina and Moses Murimi on 38 points each for the second and third prizes respectively. Jennifer Kariuki led the ladies with 37 points which was three points better than Mercy Mburu.

Sponsors title

Joe Wachiuri took the sponsors title with a score of 38 points playing off handicap 13.

The guest winner was Col Githaiga on 37 points and James Mathenge and Eddie Karumwa won the nines on 19 and 21 points.

At Nakuru Golf Club, lady golfer Margaret Mutwasi won the Kenya Power golf tournament with a score of 43 points, beating Enock Ogembo by three points.
