Home team Royal maintained their one point lead in the 2018 Tannahill Shield though this time against their arch-rivals Muthaiga, at the close of Saturday morning’s round two at the par 72 Royal Nairobi club golf course.
Royal beat their sister club Mombasa 8-0 before registering a 6-2 win against Sigona for the round’s 14 points and a two rounds total of 26 points.
It was an easy going for defending champions Muthaiga who beat both Karen and Windsor 8-0 each for a maximum collection of 16 points that gave them a total of 25 points.
During the Royal and Sigona match, the pair of Kevin Juma and Dennis Saikwa beat Alym Popat and Shiv Shah 4-3 while the pair Jatinder Thethy and Joseah Kogo lost to the youthful Adam Tayebjee and his partner Macharia Kanjumba 4-2.
The Sigona pair was 3-up at the turn. However in the other games, Jay Sandhu and Quram Bhatti beat Deep Shah and John Ndichu 4-3 and Bo Ciera and Joshua Ichangi posted a 5-4 victory against the Sigona pair of Anand Chandarana and Aman Mohindra.
In the Royal and Mombasa match, the top Royal pair of Juma and Saikwa had to work extra hard to beat long hitting Daniel Nduva and William Kaguta by one hole.
Another close match was the 1-0 victory of Jatinder Thethy and Joseah Kogo against George Munyao and Charles Rob.
Bo Ciera and Joshua Ichangi beat Simon Maina and Agil Is-Haq 7-5.
In the Muthaiga and Karen match, the pair of Chandaria cousins Neer Chandaria and Bhavnish Chandaria won 1-0 against Karen’s Anthony Mogere and Paul Kaguamba, and John Gitonga and Mutahi Kibugu beat Jimmy Scott and Mike Agengo 3-2 while Kushil Nathwani and Evans Vitisia post a 3-2 victory against Gilbert Maina and Wade Kilburn.
In the last game, Anthony Irungu and youngster Zubair Khan beat the Karen pair of veteran Clive Davis and Anthony Murage 5-4.
Vet Lab beat Western 7-1 and Limuru 6-2 for 13 points and a total of 23 points.
Vet Lab started the afternoon third round on 23 points in third place and ahead of Limuru on 19 points after picking up eight points in the morning.
Sigona also on eight points were in fifth place with 17 points, six better than Mombasa.
Western and Windsor took three points each in the morning for nine and eight points total with Karen still placed last with only six points.
The early afternoon’s third round match-ups saw Muthaiga facing Sigona and Limuru while Vet Lab confronted Mombasa and Karen all from the first tee while at the back nine, Royal was battling it out with Western and Windsor
