John Ngure wins Gatundu Golf Challenge

One of the leading golfers at Kiambu Golf Club, John Ngure over the weekend fired a level par gross 72 for an impressive nett 68 to win the Gatundu Golf Challenge at the nine-hole Kiambu Golf Club course.

He birdied the third, 11th and 16th, but dropped shots at the fourth, 10th, and 13th to level the course. He won by a shot from men winner Sammy Muriu playing off handicap 13, while Nahashon Mburu on 70 nett was second in the men's section.

In the ladies category, Lucy Karau carded 72 nett to win ahead of Grace Githere on 75 nett beating Jane Njoroge and Wanjiru Karume on countback.

Another leading amateur at Kiambu, Michael Karanga won the gross on five over par 77 and Francis Wagura on 75 nett was the best guest. The Sponsors' winner was Joseph Muchigi on 73 ahead of Pius Mworia on 76 nett.

In the Seniors' men category, Julius Gathumbi carded 72 and Jane Njoroge was the ladies' senior winner on 75 nett.

The nines went to R Y Patel on 21 and Mayur Shah, who carded 20 points. At Thika Sports Club, James Kinga won the Kenya Wines Agency (Kwal) tournament with an excellent score of 44, beating men winner Ken Njoroge by three points.

Finishing second in the high scoring event was David Marano playing off handicap six, who carded 40 points, while leading the ladies was Eunice Mwangi on 39 points, two better than Esther Mwangi, while Gordon Mutugi on 30 was the sponsors winner.

In the guests section, Joseph Mugo posted 38 points and winning the nines were Ndegwa Thuku on 23 and Eunice Wairimu who carded 22 points.
