Scotland’s Ross Kellett grabbed an early lead half way in the first round of this year’s Barclays Kenya Open Golf Championship at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course on Thursday.

Kellett shot six under par 65, thanks to two fine eagles at the fourth 10th holes and four birdies over the first, third, 11th and the last hole (18th).

He however, dropped two shots one of them at the tough par four-sixth and at the 14th hole. This gave him a one-shot advantage over Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey, Sweden’s Simon Forsstrom and South Africa’s Jaco Ahlers.

Hoey had a total of seven birdies, though two bogeys at the eighth and 15th denied him the club-house leadership, while the Swedish Forsstrom birdied six times in addition to an eagle three at the 10th, but against bogeys at the ninth, 16th and 18th.
