Gachaga stars again in Ladies Open

  • The 2017 Ladies Coast Open winner Angel Eaton of Tanzania and Kellie Gachaga tied with 401 gross.

The home pair of Florence Karimi and Sammy Kamau produced an excellent score of 42 points, to claim the top prize during the Ladies Coast Open Meeting Mixed Greensomes, the last event in the week long Ladies Coast Open golf series, at the Links Mombasa Golf Club course on Saturday.

The two won by two points from the pair of Fiona Mbandi and Wilfred Achilla, while finishing in third place with 36 points was Ann Mbogori and Symon Wambugu. The nines went to the wife and husband pair of Alice and Martin Wahome on 20 points same as Mary Kimemia and Tirus Githaiga who took the second nine.

On Friday, Muthaiga’s Kellie Gachaga had posted two over par 73 to win the Mombasa Cup, a golfer of the year event where Kitale’s Naomi Wafula was second on 81 gross after beating Tanzania’s Madina Iddi. The nett title went to Mary Kandu on 73, three shots better than Vet Lab lady captain Racheal Ndei.

Winning the Bronze title was Muthaiga’s Jaiemme Gachaga with gross 94 after beating Mombasa Golf Club chairman Jayne Githere on countback. Muthaiga’s Rita Njeru was third on 96 and winning the nett with a score of 73 was Hilda Mugure, who beat Sue Mwangi by three shots.

Naomi Wakesho won the longest drive and the nearest to pin went to Mercy Nyanchama, while Naomi Wafula was awarded the best overall gross title for the Open on 392 gross, one better than Tanzania’s Madina Iddi. The score was a combination of the scores from all the events she played during the week which included the Nyali Bowl at Nyali and at Vipingo Ridge.
