11-1! Kenya too hot for Uganda in Victoria Cup

  • The pair of home player Edwin Mudanyi and youngster Mutahi Kibugu beat Uganda's Richard Baguma and Rodel Gaita 4-3 to give Kenya its first point in the morning.

Hosts Kenya increased their total points to 11 against Uganda's one after the morning's third round four ball better format in the on going Victoria Cup golf tournament at Vet Lab Sports Club on Friday.

The pair of home player Edwin Mudanyi and youngster Mutahi Kibugu beat Uganda's Richard Baguma and Rodel Gaita 4-3 to give Kenya its first point in the morning.

Then Kenya amateur matchplay champion Daniel Nduva and his partner Zubair Khan of Muthaiga were forced to struggle before beating David Kamulindwa and Adolf Muhumuza 1-up.

However, the pair of John Karichu and Kenya's only deaf golfer Isaac Makokha lost 5-4 to Ronald Rugumayo and Joseph Chinyaai though Mike Kisia and Dennis Saikwa delivered Kenya's third point after an easy 7-5 victory against Abraham Ainamani and Martin Ochaya.

Kenya had collected maximum points during Thursday afternoon's second round Four ball better.

In that round, Daniel Nduva and Zubair Khan had won 2-1 against Martin Ochaya and Abraham Ainamani, while the pair of Dennis Saikwa and Mike Kisia beat Adolf Muhumuza and David Kamulindwa 3-2.

Also winning 3-2 was the pair of Karichu and Paul Muchangi against Uganda's Baguma and Rugumayo. In the last match, Mudanyi and Kibugu won 6-5 against Joseph Chinyaai and Herman Mutebi.

At the time of writing the two teams were battling it out in the fourth round foursomes going into Saturday's final round singles which depending on the results of the foursomes, Kenya, appear headed to a third straight triumph in the rotational tournament between the two countries which started in 2016.
