Newcomer Kagicha wins Ruiru’s vice captain tourney

  • Newcomer Willy Kagicha over the weekend beat a field of 119 players during the Vice Captain’s tournament at the par 72 Ruiru Sports Club course to claim his maiden victory.
  • Playing off handicap 28, Kagicha whose best performance before the weekend was a second place finish in the Jamhuri Day tournament last year, needed only a two club on the sixth and a par at the 13th for his impressive 42 total made up of 23 and 19 points.

Newcomer Willy Kagicha over the weekend beat a field of 119 players during the Vice Captain’s tournament at the par 72 Ruiru Sports Club course to claim his maiden victory.

Playing off handicap 28, Kagicha whose best performance before the weekend was a second place finish in the Jamhuri Day tournament last year, needed only a two club on the sixth and a par at the 13th for his impressive 42 total made up of 23 and 19 points.

Finishing second in the high scoring event sponsored by friends of the vice captain Peter Mwaura, was Gideon Gathara also a handicap 28 golfer who carded 40 points after beating David Mbugua on countback. 

Catherine Wambui was also in excellent form as she posted 41 points to walk away with the ladies first prize with Irene Wamoro a distant second on 34, one point better than Millicent Nduati.

Machakos Golf Club’s Muli Kavita played to his handicap (36 points) to emerge the best guest while the lady guest winner was Rose Wachira on 28. The sponsors were led by Mutahi Mureithi with 31 points.

At the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course, former rugby star Evans Vitisia fired two over par 37 playing off handicap three to claim the men’s title in the Year Opener tournament.

Vitisia, who has represented the club in many major events the league and Tannahill Shield, birdied the fifth and ninth.

He bogeyed the 10th and 11th at the back nine, pared the remaining seven holes.

He beat veteran golfer Don Maina who posted 36 points, while in the ladies section Shan Dan posted 39 points to take home the ladies prize as Mwanyumba Nganga on 38 clinched the junior title.

The two nines went to James Mutahi on 23 points and Michael Itote with 22 points.
