Peponi romp to Inter-School victory on play-off

Peponi School’s “A” led by Vet Lab Sports Club member Leo Zurovac, beat the Premier Academy “A” in a sudden death play-off, to retain the Inter-School golf title (Lisle Shaw Memorial trophy) at the par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club course on Wednesday.

Zurovac, playing off handicap seven, carded eight over par 80, while Aarnav Hindocha and Celina Patel, who usually play their golf at Sigona, posted 82 and 91 for a total of 253 best of three to tie with Premier’s Dev Savani, Marvin Nganga and Lee Kimathi, who had combined 79, 90 and 84 to also wind up on 253.

The two teams went for a play-off at the 18th hole, where Peponi posted 14 gross (best of three), to win by three shots and retain their title as Aga Khan finished third on 261 gross.

Peponi also won the subsidiary event that was based on the best of two scores per team where Pepni “C” posted 163 to win by four shots from their “D” team on 167.

Meanwhile, a handicap 18 golfer Bram Ayoo beat a field of 120 players in the inaugural Waziri Cup sponsored by Atlancis and ICT Authority at the Par 72 Karen Country Club course on Monday.

Ayoo, formerly based in the USA, produced an impressive 44 points during the event presided by over by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, to win the overall prize by one point from Golf Park’s Joseph Kyalo, playing off handicap 28 who posted 43 points.

“Everything just worked perfectly for me though I must say hard work and determination played a big role as I kept improving by each hole," said Ayoo, who parred eight holes and bogeyed a similar number of holes with a double bogey in between.

Railway's Millicent Mello playing off handicap 37, was third overall with 42 points beating Sydney Shikalo of Golf Park on count back. However, taking home the ladies prize with 37 points was Rose Chepkemoi.

The nines went to Daniel Kinyua on 21 and Vet Lab’s Fernando. Wangila on 22 points.
