Tanzania’s Madina wins Ladies Strokeplay

What you need to know:

  • The first and second rounds gross went to Neema Olomi of Tanzania on 79 and Golf Park’s Ashley Awuor won the second with 78.
  • The third round gross went to Kiambu’s Joyce Wanjiru on 79. In the nett section, home player Rachna Patel posted 223 nett to win ahead of Koki Muia on 230, after beating Sarah Khanyereri on countback.

Tanzania’s Madina Iddy beat former Kenya Open Strokeplay champion Kellie Gachaga of Muthaiga by the narrow margin of one shot to to defend her Kenya Open Ladies Strokeplay title at Sigona Golf Club at the weekend.

The handicap three Iddy posted rounds of 77 and 78 during day one, while in the final round, the Arusha Gymkhana player fired three over par 75 for a total of 230 gross.

Gachaga made a slow start firing 80, though she made an improvement with 74 and 76 for 231 to finish second, with Vet Lab’s Agnes Nyakio in third place on 234.

The best placed Ugandan player was Irene Nakalembe playing off two, who posted 237 to take home the fourth prize, with Kitale’s Naomi Wafula, a past winner of the event finishing fifth on 239 gross.

The third round gross went to Kiambu’s Joyce Wanjiru on 79. In the nett section, home player Rachna Patel posted 223 nett to win ahead of Koki Muia on 230, after beating Sarah Khanyereri on countback.

Terry Wainaina won the Bronze title with a score of 307 gross followed in second place by Mary Muthoni on 312 nett, and in third place was Euine Wanjiru with 320 nett.

Uganda’s Judith Kamugisha won the Dolan Bowl on 262 gross and the nett title in the Bronze division nett was won by C. Agengo on 256.

At Mombasa Golf Club, Ammaar Walji won the Madaraka Day trophy during this year’s tournament sponsored by Mombasa Continental.

Walji carded 37 points to win by one point from men winner Ismail Gulamali and Joseph Waigwa. Sammy Kamau was third in the men’s section with 35 points and in the ladies section, Mary Mariga won with 31 points, one better than Florence Karimi.

Leading the guests was David Kyambadde with 32 points and Elijah Ibua was the senior winner on 33 points.
