Tanzania’s top amateur wins Muthaiga title

  • Tanzania’s top amateur Victor Joseph beat Kenya’s Golfer of The year champion Edwin Mudanyi of Vet Lab by two shots, to claim the 2018 Muthaiga Open title at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course.
  • The off-scratch Joseph, who has been around preparing for the Barclays Kenya Open, fired three over par 74 in the final round of the 54-hole event for a three rounds total of 215 gross.
  • During the third round, the off scratch Joseph birdied the second and fourth but with five bogeys over the third, seventh, ninth, 13th and 16th.

The off-scratch Joseph, who has been around preparing for the Barclays Kenya Open, fired three over par 74 in the final round of the 54-hole event for a three rounds total of 215 gross.

During the third round, the off scratch Joseph birdied the second and fourth but with five bogeys over the third, seventh, ninth, 13th and 16th.

He had fired rounds of 73 and 68 in a day Mudanyi started with 74 and 72 before his final round of level par 71 which gave him a total of 217 gross.

Finishing third was round one leader Robinson Owiti, also from Vet Lab, who carded 69, 78 and 75 for a total of 222.

The overall nett title remained at Muthaiga with Godfrey Butichi on nett 217, four shots better than Thika’s Edwin Kiarie.

The first and second round gross went to Jay Sandhu and Dennis Saikwa of Royal on 72 gross each, while taking the third round was home player Rajesh Bhabra also on 72.

The nett rounds winners were Reuben Njoroge of Karen on 72, home player Ben Murimi with 69 and Karen’s Anthony Gacheru who scored 71 nett.

At Mombasa Golf Club, Martin Wahome carded an impressive 39 points to claim the Momba/London return air ticket courtesy of Rwanda Air during the Chairman’s Prize (Elijah Ibua).

In the ladies section, Florence Karimi beat Mary mariga on countback with 28 points.

Mburu Kariuki was the best past chairman on 29 and Anthony Getambu was the senior winner on 26. The guest winner went to Gitau Wairi with a score of 39 points.
