Vet Lab leg concludes Nation Classic Golf

Vet Lab Sports Club will be the scene for major golfing action weekend as the par 72 course, one of the most challenging courses in the country hosts the final event in this year’s Nation Classic Golf Series.
This is the first time in a long time that the Nation Media Group (NMG) sponsored series, celebrating its 33rd anniversary this year, will be hosted at the club situated inside the University of Nairobi’s Kabete Campus.
And as it has been its tradition over the years, this weekend’s event, a climax of four other events held at Nakuru, Nyahururu, Mombasa and Nyanza Golf Club Kisumu, has attracted an overwhelming field of 296 players.
If all the players drawn eventually turn, it will be the biggest field since 2013 at Muthaiga where 275 players participated.
The huge field includes guests and staff of the Nation Media Group which has supported the series since 1985. Nation Media Group’s head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Clifford Machoka was appreciative of Vet Lab’s captain and management Vet Lab for their generosity.
“It is a great honour for us to have been allowed to field such a big number of our guests and staff. It has never happened elsewhere particularly on a Saturday event and our sincere thanks and gratitude goes to the club captain’’ said Machoka.
This year, NMG has been staging the series in conjunction with a number of partners including Tuskys, Vercelli Tours and OmniSpace 3D, who have also come on board to partner with the NMG for this weekend’s tournament.
The guests include a strong team of 15 players from Nyahururu Sports Club led by club captain Sam Munyua and lady captain Susan Hiuko, with others entered from Nakuru, Mombasa, Nyanza, and various clubs in Nairobi.
Those from Nairobi clubs include Muthaiga’s Patrick Obath, who is also the Kenya Open Golf tournament director, Royal Nairobi’s Sylvester Odhiambo, former Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman Richard Wanjala, Philip Ocholla, Maurice Kanjejo, Benny Orwako and Christine Ocholla from Muthaiga, Thika’s Ndiga Kithae and the “Mountain Tigers” Fredrick Njagi, Larry Njue, David Nyaga and Paul Kaumbutho from Kiambu.
Leading the staff will be NMG chairman Dr Wilfred Kiboro who will be accompanied by Tony Glencross, managing director Monitor Publications (Uganda), NMG Human Resources Director David Kiambi, Company Secretary James Kinyua and NTV Uganda General Manager Johnson Omollo, who is also the Vice President of the Africa Golf Confederation among many others.
Leading the hunt for the overall prize among club members will be club captain Mark Karobia, club vice chairman Martin Makundi, Watson Burugu, lady golfers Mary Karano, Frankie Gichuru and lady captain Rachel Ndei.
