Veteran Shah wins Sanden Intercool tourney

Veteran Sigona golfer Anil K. Shah was in his best form over the weekend as he produced an excellent score of 41 stableford points, to claim the overall title during this year’s Sanden Intercool golf day at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club course.

The 70-year-old Shah, who started his golfing career at Kiambu Golf Club many years ago and currently playing off handicap 24, managed to overcome a first hole scratch and a couple of double bogeys to beat the field of 155 golfers.

“I don’t even know where this golf came from as its long since I managed to post such a score, but I am very because I may not be able to return such a score like this’’ said Shah who beat second placed Kamal Sehmi by one point.

In third place with 39 points was Ben Bella, who beat Gakuo Ndirangu and Sophie Liu on countback.

Former national team player Kuku Awan now playing off handicap four, carded 33 points to emerge as the guest winner, with Ali Khimji winning the junior title on 34 points.

The nines went to Jolly Esmail on 22 and Eunice Migwi, who posted 23 points.

At Ruiru Sports Club, lady golfer Catherine Wambui beat a field of over 200 golfers to claim the overall title in the Oxygene MCL golf tournament.

Wambui combined 19 and 22 for 41 points, beating men winner Joseph Mugo and runner up Joseph Kibui by two points.

In the ladies' section, Veronica Mwaura posted 40 points to win by four points from Esther Njeru 36, while Shoban Patel was third on 35 points.

Kelvin Kaburu was the best men guest with a score of 41 and the lady guest winner was Hildah Muhia on 36 points.

Leading the sponsors was Mutahi Mureithi with 36 points, one better than James Makau, as Anthony Kamau and club captain Peter Mwaura finished on 25 and 22 points.

Job Kamau emerged the best guest with 41 points and the nines went to Wilson Mwangi on 22 points and Paul Nduati who carded 21 points.
