The long awaited Kenya Hockey Union National Elections take place Saturday at the Parklands Sports Club in Nairobi.

The polls will be the last business of the agenda during the union’s Annual General Meeting.

A total of 10 positions including that of the chairman will be filled by a contesting field of 19 under the new KHU constitution following the enactment of the 2013 Sports Act.

Attention will most definitely be on the top seat as the incumbent battles to secure another four year term against the hockey legend.

The elections were originally scheduled for October 28 but were postponed due to the Africa Cup of Nations which was held In Ismailia, Egypt from October 22 to 29.

They were then pushed to December 16 only to be postponed again to allow affiliates time to hold their elections.

Two delegates from Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisumu and Coast are eligible to vote as well as two delegates from the Kenya Umpires Association and two life members bringing a total of 16 votes.

The Centre for Sports Law will oversee the elections which many have predicted will be closely contested. Incumbent Nashon Randiek is seeking a second term in office.

Unlike in 2013 where he was unopposed for the top post, the former army man will this time face former international and Olympian Inderjit Singh Matharu.

Many have opined that Randiek’s helm at the body has seen the standards of the game decline.
