20 cars for Athi River round of KNRC series

  • Previous rounds of the national events have received an average of 40 cars and the latest list is one among the lowest.
  • Without a title sponsor, the entry fee has shot up to Sh37,000 compared to Sh12,000 previously when there was a title sponsor.

The Rally Sport Club has received an entry of 20 cars for its round of the 2018 Kenya National Rally Championship this Saturday.

Ian Duncan, the reigning national champion, is among those missing out for unknown reasons. Also missing out is former African rally champion Jasi Chatthe and Leonardo Varese, the multiple winner of the National Formula Two Championship.

Eric Bengi and Tuta Mionki, fresh from scoring a career- best result in the Safari Rally with a fifth overall place driving a Subaru Impreza, will be among the top drivers preparing for the RSC event. The Subaru Impreza crew is seeded at number seven.

“We are keeping our feet on the ground to make sure we continue with the same motivation like what we did in the Safari Rally. This is another rally with another commitment in the plans,” said Mionki.

Others will include Karan Patel and James Mwangi seeded at number five in their Mitsubishi Lancer EvoX. Fahraaz Khan and Keith Henrie are seed at number eight in a similar car among others.

Official reconnaissance

Stoni Athi Resort will host documentation and scrutineering on Friday. The venue will also be Rally Headquarters while the service park will be at Athi Grill in Athi River with the official reconnaissance scheduled for Friday when the scrutineering of the rally cars will also take place. 

The maximum speed on competitive sections during reconnaissance is 80 kilometres per hour and each crew is allowed a maximum of two passes per competitive section.
