Baldev Chager is seeded first in Saturday’s round of the 2018 Kenya National Rally Championship that revs off in Athi River at 7am.

As usual, hard-charging Carl Tundo, Africa champion Manvir Baryan and Onkar Rai will be the drivers to beat in the competition which is the third rally of the season.

The rally, organised by Rallye Sports Club, is the first event of the current series since the last round of the KNRC was held in March. There has been a period of inactivity without rally action for drivers due to bad weather caused by heavy rains across the country.

Organizers of the race have prepared a route of up to 208 kilometres, 176km of which will be competitive. Three stages of the competition will be done twice. The longest stage will stretch nearly 49km while the shortest will be about 14km.

The loop round Kunkur Stage (14km) will get the action going at 7am. From Kunkur, drivers will tackle Konza to Konza (49km) beginning at 8.05am. The loop around Machakos Stage (24km) will start at 10am. The first car is expected back at the finish from 3pm.

Poor weather conditions forced the Kenya Motor Sports Club’s round of the 2018 Kenya National Rally Championship to be pushed to October 13 and 14 from its original date of May 12 and 13.

Chager leads the current series with 53 points, after returning second in both the Nakuru and Safar Rally. Carl Tundo, winner of the Safari Rally who also came fifth in Nakuru, is second with 50 points.

He is followed by Farhaaz Khan and Eric Bengi, each with 29 points. Bengi and his navigator Tuta Mionki are also leading the Division One Championship with 59 points each.

Ravi Soni and Tim Jessop are joint leaders in the Overall Navigators’ Championship with 53 points each. Only two drivers have scored points in the Two Wheel Championship - with Sarit Shah (57 points) and Daren Miranda (38).

Edward Maina and John Ngugi lead Division Three category with 48 points, while Nikhil Sachania and Alfir Khan lead the SPV Class with 38 points.

Group S is headed by Sohanjeet Pure and Adnan Din with 59 points, while Group B13 is led by Akif Virani and Azar Bhatti with 50 points. Group N leader is Fahraaz Khan with 50 points.
