Baldev Chager wins Nakuru Classic Rally

What you need to know:

  • The top lady driver was Lola Verlaque and co driven by Edward Verloque in a VW Golf Gti. She finished last of the 29 crews that survived over 1,500kms of competitive track, running over a five-day period, through uniquely stunning expanses of Northern Kenya.
  • South Africa's Geoff Bell, who was navigated by Tim Challen of Kenya in a Datsun 240Z, finished in an excellent second place ahead of another Porsche 911 of Onkar Rai and Des Page-Morris in the third position.

Baldev Chager is the 2018 Nakuru Classic Rally champion after winning the latest round of the Rift Valley Motor Sports Club event.

The Porsche driver, who was navigated by Ravi Soni, led almost from start to finish of the five-day event that had started in Nanyuki and crossed over to the Nakuru side.

Among the 38 entries, were top foreign drivers in the two-wheel-operated cars such as the Datsuns, Porsches, Triumphs and Ford Escorts.

Former Kenya National Rally Champion, Alistair Cavenagh was placed fourth on his to return to active competition after a long lay-off. He was driving a Porsche 911 with his regular co-driver, Gavin Laurence.

Defending Safari Rally Champion, Carl Tundo dropped down the order after lying at the top of the order in his Triumph TR7 at the early stages. He was partnered by Tim Jessop.

The crew finished 23rd overall. A similar car of the Carl's father, Frank Tundo was placed fourth with Kavit Dave as his navigator.

Team mates, Aslam Khan/Arshard Khan and Rob Linck/Imran Khan finished seventh and eighth respectfully in their Porsches 911s.

Ramesh Vishram and Shammer Yusuf scored a commendable 11th place in their Ford Escort MK2.

The five-day competition was mostly run in dry and dusty weather with no major breakdowns or obstacles across the Rift Valley region.
