What you need to know:

  • The writing was on the wall for Laukkanen when his Porsche 911 broke a stub on day two of the competition.
  • Ian Duncan, who has won the East African Safari Classic Rally Marathon Raid Rally on two separate occasions, failed to finish after his Ford Capri developed engine failure at the penultimate stage.

Ace driver Baldev Chager driving a Porsche 911 on Tuesday won the Safaricom 4GB-sponsored Mini Classic Rally.

Chager, a winner of the Nakuru Classic Rally, seemingly knew what it takes, never looking back after inheriting the lead from Tapio Laukkanen at the beginning of the second of the three-day competition.

The Finn co-driven by Gavin Laurence finished second in a Porsche 911.

Co-driven by Ravi Soni, Cacher lost 364mins.16.8secs in the 900 kilometres race.

''We were lucky as we drove with a broken rear tie-rod end for the last 35 kilometres of the stage,'' said Soni.

Chager has also won the Safari Rally and Kenya National Rally Drivers Championship series.
