Curtain comes down on rally season

What you need to know:

  • Racing will be over 184km with 152km competitive, mainly over Stoni Athi.
  • Some 27 cars revving to finish with a bang in final round of 2018 KNRC on Sunday.

The curtain comes down on the 2018 Kenya National Rally Championship Sunday morning with the Multiple Hauliers-sponsored Guru Nanak Rally.

The 39th edition of the Simba Union Club rally will start at 7.15am from the Stoni Athi Resort, on the outskirts of Machakos County.

A total of 27 cars are expected to compete.

Starting off the ramp first will be the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10 of Jasi Chatthe and Gugu Panesar.

The crew will be looking for their first finish of the season after failing in the Safari and Nakuru Rallies respectively before taking a break only to return for the season finale.

FIVE STAGES

Fans will get a chance to see action in five competitive stages.

The main spectator section will be within sight of the start/finish ramp.

Competitive racing will start with a 2.5km spectator stage at 7.18am that will be done three times along the 184km route. Some 152km will be competitive.
The next two of the spectator stages will be done at 10.12am and 12.21pm.

The Stoni Athi section of 57.77km stage will be done twice beginning at 7.56am and 10.50am respectively.

The SGR stage of 14.94km will be done only once at 10.25am.

The first car is expected at the finish from 1pm.

Manvir Baryan, the reigning African champion, driving a Skoda Fabia, is seeded number two followed by Baldev Chager (Mitsubishi Evolution 10), and Onkar Rai (Skoda Fabia), in that order.

The newly crowned Kenya champion, Carl Tundo will follow in fifth position in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10, under no pressure whatsoever. Waigwa Murage will shift seats as he navigates Asad Khan in a Subaru Impreza.

Murage has previously contested events as a driver.

Mombasa-based crew of Sohanjeet Puee and Adnan Din, who have already clinched both the Division Two and Class S for both the Driver and Navigator Championship titles, are seeded number 15.

The SPV Class, which is for specially modified rally cars, has been won by Nikhil Sachania, the only handicapped driver in the Kenya National Rally Championship series.

He is seeded number 14 with Alfir Khan in a specially prepared Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10.
