Focus shifts to Chloride Exide Hill Climb

What you need to know:

  • The circuit distance will be of three kilometres with an altitude starting at 1,900 metres and rising to 2,100 metres.
  • There will be seven different classes namely bikes, quads, 4WDs, raids, classics, buggies and juniors with machines varying from ordinary rally cars to buggies and motorcycles in action.

After last weekend's championship-ending Guru Nanak Rally, action shifts off-road this weekend with the Chloride Exide-sponsored Hill Climb competition lined up in Naivasha.

Race director Gurvir Bhabra heads the team of officials, including Deven Jadeja, Hardeep Rehsi and Anwar Sidi, currently finalizing preparations for the contest.

Tim Jessop, who drove a buggy in the last round of the series, will be among the competitors at the final round of the Hill Climb. He is fresh from winning the 2018 Kenya National Rally Championship navigators title.

''I feel proud and happy to hold a big record in the sport. My tally of wins and championships across all main disciplines speaks for itself which includes Motocross Championship 2014/2015, Five KNRC titles, Five Safari Rally wins, One Classic Rally victory, One Rally Raid Buggy championship and a new achievement in the 2018 as Enduro champion,'' said Jessop.

The climb will take place at the Malewa Bay on Saturday and Sunday.Malewa Bay is situated on the Moi North Lake road, about 21 kilometres from the Delamare shops on the Naivasha/Nairobi highway.

''I eagerly anticipate the weekend of flat-out action which promises once again to be exciting and spectacular. All the fans are welcome to our beautiful and entertaining venue,'' said Vicky Karugu, the Malewa Bay chief executive officer.

The competition has attracted over 50 competitors who include top Kenya National Rally Championship contenders with the ladies' team of Linda Hughes, Syaana Jessop and Chantel Young also expected to compete.

Provisionally, the races will start at 8am on both the days.
