What you need to know:

  • The rally will cover a combined distance of 1,120 kilometres of competitive and transport sections.
  • The competitive distance will be 600 kilometres while the transport distance will cover 520 kilometres.

Preparations for the Safaricom 4G-sponsored Mini Classic Rally are in top gear with confirmation that the rally's timing system will be managed by a team from Bulgaria.

The rally, which is being organized by the East African Safari Rally Limited, will start in Nairobi on August 17 and finish in Nakuru on August 19.

The timing system is one of the most vital requirements in rallying with Alexander Kovatchev, the head of the Bulgarian Timing Team, will spearhead the timing department although he will not be in Kenya personally.

His technology is able to detect the times of the cars as soon as they hit a time barrier at the end of the stages. Drivers are required to have special transponders in their rally cars in order to for the system to work accordingly.

Raju Chagger, a well known local competitor, will be the Clerk of the Course while another well know rally driver, Alfir Khan, will deputise.

The rally will cover a combined distance of 1,120 kilometres of competitive and transport sections.

The competitive distance will be 600 kilometres while the transport distance will cover 520 kilometres.
