The Kabras Team of Baldev Chager and Onkar Rai is beaming with confidence as they get ready for the Mombasa Rally that begins at 6.30am on Saturday.

Rai, who is fresh from winning the Chloride Excide Hill Climb race last weekend in his Skoda Fabia, said he was ready to add another win in the 2019 Kenya National Rally Championship following his victory in the opening round of the series earlier in the season.

"It was a good feeling to win the Hill Climb and I raced with confidence. I am looking forward to the Mombasa Rally with the hope of pushing for a win. Obviously Boldy (Baldev Chager) and Flash (Carl Tundo) will do the same so I have to make sure we are quick and clean and I am sure we can compete with them for the win," Rai told Nation Sport.

But he will have to reckon with in-form Carl Tundo, in a Mitsubishi Evolution10, who leads the series with 100 points after clinching the last three legs of the national championship.

Chager, the former Safari Rally and National champion, has been out of form this season despite winning one event thus far, the Rift Classic Rally, and will certainly be looking to regain his very high standards.

"Every event we do we always want to do the best we can and try to achieve maximum points. We lost in the last event in the very last stage. It has been a while since we won a KNRC round and it will be good if we can climb up the ramp as winners," said Chager.

Chager added: "The KNRC has become quite fast and one has to be quick from the word go. It will be hard to catch up on points with Tundo after failing to finish the last rally but there’s still a while to go to the end of the season. Let's see."

Chager said he was happy to see a good entry list in Saturday's rally compared to the past legs that have registered low participation.

Twenty-five cars will be racing in Mombasa.

Tundo clinched the Kenya Motor Sports Club event last month to record his third consecutive victory of the series.

A few big names are, however, missing from the start list. They include Manvir Baryan, the reigning African Rally Champion, and former KNRC and Safari Rally champion Ian Duncan.

Mombasa Cement will host one competitive stage of 21km that will be done thrice. It will be followed by another short competitive stage of five kilometres to be done twice at the ocean section within Kilifi. The final sections are Magongoni (26km) and Mwatula (30km).
