Chavakali, Malava retain Western titles

Regional Secondary School Term Two Games action continued throughout the country on Friday.

In Western Region, dominant Chavakali Secondary School bagged the sevens rugby title as the curtains came down on the Western Region Games in Mumias.

Chavakali crushed former National Champions St. Peter’s Secondary School 12-7 in a hotly contested final at St. Peter’s School. Chavakali lead 7-0 at the breather but St Peter’s equalized in the second half sending the game into sudden death.

Malava Secondary School successfully defended their boy’s volleyball title after thrashing determined Chesamisi Secondary School 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21) in the final at St. Peter’s School.

In the boys' football under 19 final, defending champions Kakamega High School defeated Bukembe Secondary School 3-1 at Mumias Sports Complex.

Former champions Tononoka Secondary from Mombasa and Shimba Hills from Kwale will face off today in the first football semi-final while last year’s winners Ramisi Secondary take on Sagala International Academy of Taita Taveta in the other semis at the Coast Region games at Kwale High and Matuga Girls.

FIREWORKS

Fireworks are also expected in the girls semi-finals when former champions St John’s Kaloleni entertain Mwakitawa Girls while defending champions Kwale Girls take on Was Girls in the other semi finals at Matuga girls.

In the girls matches played yesterday, Kwale hammered Mwakitawa 5-0 to top Pool A while St John’s defeated Was by a solitary goal to top Pool B.

Shimba Hills beat Kiongwe from Tana River 10-2 in boys’ football to top Group A with Gede Secondary runners up while Sagala International defeated Gede 2-1 to top Pool B Tononoka finishing second.

In Rift Valley Region, defending football champions St Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale and Wiyeta Girls High School showed their intent at Hill School in Eldoret. Saint Anthony’s, the 2017 losing finalist, registered an emphatic 6-1 win against new comers Girgir Mixed High School from Samburu.
