Kwale County dominates Coast school games

Kwale County dominated the eventful Coast Region Secondary School Term Two Games that concluded at Kwale High School and Matuga Girls High School on Monday.

While boys' volleyball and under-16 football favourites Waa Boys were knocked out on technicality, under-19 boys' football hopefuls Tononoka Secondary were disqualified at the final stage after it was discovered they fielded an ineligible player.

According to Coast Schools Sports Secretary Omar Mwadena Munga, Waa Boys' volleyball team, who have been representing the region at the National stage for the past three years and whose target was a podium finish at this year’s National games in Eldoret next month together with the school’s boys' under-16 football team, were barred from taking part at the Coast games after the students burnt the school dormitory, just a few days to the regional games.

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association rules state that any school that is on strike will have its teams barred from taking part in the school games until the school reopens after the strike.

In the absence of Tononoka and the Waa volleyball and junior football teams, new champions emerged with Shimba Hills beating neighbours Ramisi Secondary 2-0 to reclaim the boys’ under-19 football title they last won six years ago, while Shimoni Boys' volleyball team, who have been playing second fiddle to Waa Boys for the past four years, got their chance after beating Mwalughamba Secondary 3-2 for their first ever national championship slot.
