Former Coast football star Abdul Pele continued with his fine form in the Africa PVC Industries Invitational Snooker Tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Burhani Sports Club’s Shiraz Paun at Mombasa Sports Club (MSC) on Saturday.

Pele, an ex-Coast Combined and Mombasa’s Liverpool striker, started the game winning the first frame before Paun drew level. Pele secured his semi-final berth by winning the third frame.

He is looking forward to reach the final by beating his semi-final opponent - MSC colleague Zarak Rana. “I’m confident of booking a place in the final since I feel I’m at my best,” said Pele.

Pele had earlier registered a similar 2-1 win against his MSC captain Alpesh Khimji in a pre-quarter final match on Friday.

His semi-final opponent Rana managed qualified for the last four by beating Bijal Amu Shah of Visa Oshwal 2-0 during the other quarter-final clash.

From the pre-quarter final matches, snooker fans predicted Pele would meet Haji in the tournament final after the duo displayed a cool game.

MSC snooker captain Khimji praised all participants for displaying high standards of the game and expressed hope that sponsors will support more tournaments in future.

“We want snooker players in Mombasa and Coast at large to get an opportunity to show their skills,” said Khimji.

The tournament organised by Mombasa Sports Club attracted 53 participants from six clubs namely Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa Sports Club, Burhani SC, Central Bank of Kenya, Goan Institute and Visa Oshwal Community.
