Refurbished gyms for police sportsmen and women

The National Police Service sportsmen and women have a reason to smile following the unveiling of three refurbished gymnasiums at the General Service Unit, Ruiru and Highridge, Nairobi.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett, who commissioned the facilities, disclosed that two gymnasiums based in Highridge and the other one in Ruiru have been refurbished and stocked at a tune of Sh 5.2 million courtesy of Lotto Foundation.

Boinett, who commissioned the facilities, said they will be used by their sportsmen and women from across the disciplines including athletics and boxing among others.

“We are privileged to have this modern training equipment, which I believe will help our sportsmen and women prepare for competitions and also maintain overall physical fitness,” said Boinett.

“Our nature of work is demanding hence the need to heed the call that our health is our greatest wealth.

Walucho said that they have equipped the three gymnasiums with fitness machines that varies from treadmills and bikes for cardio, weights, overall body toning machines, boxing punching bags and gloves.
Walucho said the equipment have been imported from the US.

”Lotto Foundation is glad to note the service and the sacrifice of the Kenya National Police and how they always put service above self,” said Walucho.

“Not only do they maintain our national security but they are also at the forefront in training renowned sports men and women.”

The National Police Service has renowned athletes like World and Commonwealth 1,500m champion Elijah Manangoi and the new London Marathon champion Vivian Cheruiyot, who is also the Olympic 5,000m champion.

World Cross Country champion Geoffrey Kamworor, who is also the World Half Marathon champion, World Cross Country champion Irene Cheptai, 2013 World 3,000m steeplechase champion Milcah Chemos and the 2009 and 2011 World marathon champion Abel Kirui.

Lotto are also the sponsors of Athletics Kenya National Cross Country Series.
