Shimba Hills, Waa chase Matuga Sub-county titles

What you need to know:

  • Girls’ matches will see Kaya Tiwi and Shimba Hills join the race for a ticket to the county games alongside  champions Kwale Girls and Waa.
  • At the Shimba Hills zonal championships, Shimba Hills defeated Tumaini secondary 5-0 , and went on to edge Lukore Secondary 3-0 and Stephen Kanja  4-0 to retain their zonal title.
  • They also won girls’ Under-19 title after beating Stephen Kanja 3-0 and Tumaini Secondary 7-0, while Mwaluvamba defeated Kichaka Simba 1-0.

The battle for football supremacy in Matuga Sub-county takes centre stage as giants Waa Boys High school, Shimba  Hills Secondary and Kaya Tiwi prepare to battle for a ticket to play at the Kwale County Term Two games set for June 6.

Matuga Sub-county games were set to kick off on Thursday, but the championships have been postponed to May 31 due to academic workshops, according to Matuga District Secondary Schools Sports Association chairman Robert Aran.

The games will also see reigning Coast region champions Kwale Girls renew rivalry with reigning Coast Chapa Dimba tournament champions Waa Girls High School in a potentially explosive match.

“We have had to cancel the games which were to take place from Thursday (tomorrow) owing to a congested academic programme and we will now hold them next week, which gives teams more time to prepare,” Aran said on Tuesday.

Shimba Hills Boys who are champions of Coast Chapa Dimba football tournament, will be doing battle with champions Waa Boys  for a sole ticket to the county games, Kaya Tiwi and Kwale Boys also waiting on the wings for any slip-ups from the two.
