Mombasa County team avenged last year’s final loss to Kilifi when they edged out their rivals 5-4 on post-match penalties during a thrilling Coast Region Primary Schools Games boys football semi-final match at Ukunda Showground ground on Friday.

The two teams failed to break the deadlock in regular time, forcing the match officials to call for post-match lotteries to determine winners. Mombasa players converted all their spot kicks with Kilifi missing one.

Mombasa penalties were scored by Harry Salim, Define Kasongo, Ali Hamisi, Richard Jefa and Mwanzia Mwema. Kilifi's Kitsao Shida, Gideon Mangi, Kazungu Ramadhan and Katana James were spot on with Kabaka Abdalla missing the target.

Mombasa will play Kwale who beat Taita Taveta 2-0 in the semi-finals at the same venue.

Kwale notched in their two goals through Abdalla Kidato in the 33rd minute and Said Abdalla on the stroke of half time.

Kwale team coach Mohammed Bakari said they will go flat out for a win against Mombasa. “We are confident we shall beat Mombasa in the final. We’ve seen our opponents and we are prepared to receive the silverware,” said Bakari.
