Western Stima have targeted a top three finish at this year’s East and Central Africa Netball Club Championships in Tanzania.

More than 10 clubs will take part in the annual competition that will be held in Dar es Salaam, from May 5-12.

The Kisumu-based Western Stima qualified for the competition by virtue of winning the 2017 Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) league.

The Kenya Power and Lightning Company-sponsored team will represent Kenya in the women’s category of the tournament alongside Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) that finished second in the national league.

Ulinzi also qualified for the competition by virtue of finishing third in the national league but have not confirmed participation.

In the 2017 regional championships held in Nairobi, Stima finished a disappointing fifth, and the club’s head coach Emily Mola vowed to finish in the medal bracket this year.

“Last year we did not perform according to our expectation thus we are determined to improve on that. Having won this year’s league we are sure of a good result which for us is nothing but a top three finish,” said Mola.

In preparation for championship, the club has taken part in two local tournaments. They re-affirmed their dominance of the game last weekend by winning the Chairman’s Cup which was held in Nyeri after edging out their arch rival Ulinzi 25-21 in the final.
