Prisons Kenya took full advantage of their nemesis Pipeline’s stumble to open a two-point lead in the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League play-off played at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Pipeline fell to a determined KCB 3-2 (29-27, 19-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-12) while Prisons Kenya maintained their perfect start blanking Bungoma County 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-19) to take their points tally to six.

The two teams were widely expected to continue with their winning starts after they strolled to comfortable wins on Saturday. Pipeline hit Bungoma County 3-0 while Prisons made light work of the Bankers.

David Muthui-coached KCB took the first set 29-27 against a shocked Pipeline side. Japheth Munala rallied his girls to win the second set 25-19 before taking the third set 25-22. KCB were not done yet taking the fourth set 25-20 forcing the match into the fifth set.

A delighted Muthui told Nation Sport that he was satisfied with how his girls played on Sunday afternoon. “We worked on our reception and back court defence and that’s why our attack. We knew if we took the fourth set, will win the fifth,” he said.

In the second match, Josp Barasa made one change to the Warders resting Sharon Chepchumba for Pamela Masaisai. Skipper Mercy Moim maintained her place alongside setter Joy Lusenaka.

The warders showed their might from the onset against the debutants from Bungoma. Barasa rung changes in the third set introducing Diana Khisa, Everlyne Makuto, Shyrine Jepkemboi, Yvonne Wavinya and Chepchumba to wrap up the game.

Barasa said that his charges stuck to the game plan and his system is so far working. “All our positions are functioning when going for offense and that is a good sign heading to our last match. We know we only need a point against Pipeline to win the title but we shall be going for maximum points,” he said.

Prisons lead the play-offs with six points two ahead of Pipeline, KCB lie third third with two while Bungoma County are bottom without a point.
