Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology thrashed Eldoret RFC 30-5 in their Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Nationwide league semi-final at MMUST in Kakamega, on Saturday.

The victory propelled MMUST to their first final appearance after three seasons.

MMUST grabbed the lead barely three minutes into the match via a penalty kicked in by Felix Okisai.

Nine minutes later MMUST’s Claus Shiriero outsprinted Eldoret’s full back Elvis Mayenze to touch down for an 8-0 lead.

Eldoret hit back with Clause Muginza crossing over in the 15th minute after he wriggled through a packed MMUST defence.

A shaky Eldoret backline let through MMUST’s live wire Okisai for a try. Timothy Masika drilled over a penalty as MMUST increased their lead to 16-5 at the breather.

MMUST, who displayed a skilful game, dominated the second half and inevitably scored again when Elly Kihoro touch.

Masika wrapped up the match with another try.

MMUST Coach Ochieng Ahaya commended his boys for the win.

“We shall embark on serious training in preparation for the final encounter. We are determined to join the Kenya Rugby Championship next season,” said Ahaya.

“My players lacked co-ordination and that cost us the match,” said Eldoret coach Eric Nyangoya.
