KCB crush Mwamba to set up Homeboyz showdown

  • KCB, who are chasing their seventh Cup success, touched down seven tries to thrash Mwamba 53-7 at KCB Ruaraka Sports Club.
  • Kabras Sugar downed visiting Blak Blad from Kenyatta University 38-10 at Kakamega Showground while the Sarries edged out visitors Nakuru 24-15 at Impala Sports Club.

Champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Homeboyz turned on the style to beat their opponents and reach Enterprise  Cup semi-finals.

KCB, who are chasing their seventh Cup  success, led 17-0 at the break, touching down seven converted  tries to thrash Mwamba 53-7 at KCB Ruaraka Sports Club.

Homeboyz rallied from behind 11-9 to score three  tries, two conversions,  three penalties  and a drop goal to silence Nondescript 31-11 at Jamhuri  Park Showground.KCB, who are the Kenya Cup champions, will now face Homeboyz in the semi-finals on Saturday at Ruaraka grounds, while last year’s losing finalists Kabras Sugar will face Impala Saracens  in the other semi-final match in Kakamega.

Kabras Sugar  yesterday beat visiting  Blak Blad from Kenyatta  University  38-10 at Kakamega Showgrounds, while the Sarries edged touring Nakuru 24-15 at the Impala  Sports Club in Nairobi.

Flanker Felix Ojow scored a brace of tries while second-row Francis Mwita, eighthman Rocky  Anguko, and substitutes Michael  Kimwele, Oliver
Mang’eni and George Asin managed a try apiece to put KCB on course for third consecutive Enterprise Cup win.

Scrumhalf Marlin Mukolwe, Shaban Ahmed and Esau Otieno managed two conversions  each as Mukolwe added a penalty for KCB.

Eighthman Edwin Machanje scored Mwamba’s try that Daniel Taabu converted. KCB were reduced to 14 players for the last minutes of play when referee  Godwin Karuga showed Elphas Otieno his matching orders for foul play on Mwamba  player back Alex Oturo.

However, KCB coach Curtis Olago said they will appeal the decision, insisting Otieno didn’t cause an infringement on Oturo.

“Everybody  saw what happened and we were lost for words. It never warranted  a red card not even a sin-bin,” said Olago, who praised his charges for a structured display especially the second half in which  they scored five tries.

Mwamba assistant coach James Ondiege said KCB played a technical and structured game.

“There is little we could. KCB was a better side with heavy forwards,” said Andiege. Thomas Okidia, Leonard Mugaisi and Michael Wanjala scored Homeboyz  tries.

Johnstone Olindi, who slotted over three  penalties, managed a drop goal and a conversion while Evin Asena curled over one conversion.

Steve Oluoch scored two tries while Edwin Achayo, Ephraim Oduor, Geoffrey  Shitambasi and Habil Malika touched down each for Kabras.
