Impala face wounded Kabras in Enterprise Cup final

Impala Saracens have taken all precautions needed ahead of the the Enterprise Cup final against wounded Kabras Sugar in at the RFUEA grounds Saturday from 4pm.

The big match will be curtain-raised by the Mwamba Cup final pitting Strathmore Leos II against Kabras Sugar II from 1.30pm.

Impala battled to edge out Kenya Cup champions KCB 11-10 while Kabras Sugar thrashed Kenya Harlequin 54-11 in the semi-finals two weeks ago.

Impala are chasing their 11th Enterprise Cup title, with their last Cup success coming way back in 2005, while it’s Kabras Sugar’s first final appearance.

Notably, it’s Impala who halted Kabras Sugar’s charge to the final last year, beating them 16-13 in the semi-finals at Kakamega Showground.

Whether Kabras Sugar will have recovered from their Kenya Cup final defeat at the hands of KCB last Saturday in Kakamega is left to be known as the two sides seek revenge.

They last met exactly seven weeks away in a Kenya Cup outing at Impala where the touring sugar men reigned supreme 32-22.

MAIDEN TITLE

Last year, Homeboyz lifted their maiden 15s title when they beat the Impala Saracens 21-3 in the final at the RFUEA.

“A wounded and broken side is always dangerous and we are not taking any chance,” said Impala Saracens coach Frank Ndong’ “It’s our intention to replicate what KCB did on Saturday but it will depend on how we turn up. It’s now about us not Kabras.”

Ndong’ predicted a brutal and direct approach. “The battle will be won at breakdowns and set pieces but we hope the conditions will be dry for a running game,” said Ndong’.

OMER OUT

Impala will miss the services of eighth man Joel Omer, fly-half Samuel Oliech and centre Anthony Nyandigisi, who are still nursing injuries but welcomes back hooker Daniel Ndome to the bench.

Kabras Sugar head coach Henley Du Plessis disclosed that they have worked on the players’ mindset after their heartbreaking 23-15 loss to KCB in Kakamega last Saturday.
