Leaders Kabras Sugar RFC defeated visiting Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC 39-24 in a fiercely contested Kenya Cup League match played at Kakamega showgrounds on Saturday.

Felix Ayange led with two tries as Dan Sikuta, Claude Johannes, Phillip Wokorach and Kevin Kabole all chipped with a try each coupled with three conversions via Wokorach and a penalty from the full back were enough to sink Homeboyz.

Homeboyz touched down their tries through Polycarp Odhiambo, William Diffu and Mohammed Omollo and conversions from Evin Asena (2), while Leonard Mugaisi hit through the poles courtesy of a drop goal.

Homeboyz stunned the 2016 champions when they secured a converted try via Odhiambo two minutes into the match.

But two quick unconverted tries from Sikuta and Johannes restored parity for Kabras.

Ayange hit through the poles a converted try, while his mate Wokaorach stepped up the hunt for more points with a converted try to enable his side lead 24-14 at the breather.

Upon resumption from half time, Homeboyz's Mugaisi scored a drop goal, but Wokorach replied with a penalty, while Ayange hit down a converted try, before Kabole drove home an unconverted try.

William Diffu scored a converter try for Homeboyz. Kabras coach Henley Plessis admitted that the match was tough.

“Our opponents really gave us a run of our money. But we were prepared for the battle,” said Plessis.
