Kenya 7s stun Fiji to keep Cup quarters hunt alive

Kenya Sevens recovered from their opening Pool "A" loss to New Zealand with a stunning 21-19 win over World Rugby Sevens Series leaders Fiji in a thrilling match at the at Jean-Bouin Stadium on Saturday.

Colllins Injera, William Ambaka, Andrew Amonde and Eric Ombasa scored a try each as Kenya Sevens led 15-7 at the break.

Tries from Semi Kunatani, Josua Vakurunabili and Kalione Nasoko failed to deter Kenya from claiming revenge against the Fijians, who beat them at the Canada Sevens and Hong Kong Sevens Cup finals.

Kenya must now beat Samoa at 7.52pm on Saturday if they hope to make it to the Cup quarterfinals and stay in the hunt for their second ever Cup victory since 2016 Singapore Sevens.

Fiji had beaten Samoa 35-12 in their Pool “A" opening match as Kenya lost 24-5 to New Zealand.

Pool “A” was thrown open after New Zealand humbled Samoa 22-17 with Fiji, Kenya and Samoa having equal chances of qualifying for Cup quarters. All Blacks top with six points while Fiji and Kenya are on four points each. Samoa have two points.
