Kenya 7s thrash Spain to storm Hong Kong quarters

William "Lomu" Ambaka scored a brace of tries as Kenya Sevens crushed Spain 26-0 to qualify for the main Cup quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Sevens on Saturday at the Hong Kong Stadium.

Canada did Kenya a big favour to qualify to the Cup quarters with a match to spare after they stunned Australia 35-14 in the other Pool "B" match.

That saw the Canadians lock out Australia, who are the Australia Sevens champions from advancing to the Cup quarters.

The Aussies had on the first day on Friday stunningly lost 17-12 to Spain.

Kenya won their opener, mauling Canada 33-10.

While Kenya meets Australia at 12.10pm Canada will take in Spain in the other Pool match where the winner will join Innocent Simiyu's charges in the main Cup.

Collins Injera and Jeffrey Oluch scored Kenya's other tries with Samuel Oliech converting all.

Ambaka, who had reached the 100 tries milestone in the World Rugby Sevens Series in day one when they beat Canada 33-10, showed intent of reaching his second century when he landed his first try in the second minute before completing a brace three minutes later.

Injera would score his 252nd try of the Series with an easy run from the restart ball as Kenya went to the break 19-0 in the lead.

Substitute Jeffrey Oluoch wound up Kenya's assault with a try to send Kenya, who reached the Cup final in Canada, to their sixth Cup quarters this season.

Kenya are chasing their second Cup victory in the Series after their 2016 exploits at Singapore Sevens.
