Kenya recover from France defeat to beat Russia at USA Sevens

  • The Kenyans had started their campaign on a wrong footing, losing to France 19-14 in  their Pool "A" opening duel.

  • Tries from Jeffery Oluoch and returnee Collins Injera  put Kenya ahead 12-0 against the Russians after Eden Agero converted  one.

Kenya staged a swift return from France defeat to beat Russia 19-12 and kept their quest for USA Sevens crown alive at Sam Boyd Stadium in Law Vegas on Saturday.

The Kenyans had started their campaign on a wrong footing, losing to France 19-14 in  their Pool "A" opening duel.

Tries from Jeffery Oluoch and returnee Collins Injera  put Kenya ahead 12-0 against the Russians after Eden Agero converted  one.

 Ovchinnikov brought Russia back into the match at 12-5 at the break with a try.

German Davydov would level for Russia at 12-12 before Injera sealed his brace of tries for Agero to convert and lead 19-12. The Kenyans held on to the lead for the victory.

The Kenyans rallied  from behind 12-0 with Samuel Oliech converting his own try as Kenya Sevens trailed France 7-12 at the break.

It's Paul Bonnefond who had Kenya at backfoot with a try that Jean Pascal Barraque converted to take the lead 7-0.

Sacha Valleau put Franice ahead 12-0 with a try before Oliech orchestrated the comeback.

William Ambaka crossed the line before Oťliech converted to give Kenya the lead 14-12 only for Sacha Valleau to complete his brave of tries as France regained the lead 19-14 with Barraque's conversion.

Kenya must now beat Fiji at 11.36pm on Saturday if they are to make it to the main Cup quarterfinals from Pool "A".

Fiji beat Russia 38-0 and France 19-5 ease through to the main Cup quarterfinals.
