Second leg of National Sevens Circuit gets underway

Homeboyz intensify the hunt for a double when they open their title campaign in the second leg of the National Sevens Series, Sepetuka Sevens, against Masinde Muliro from 11.10am on Saturday at Eldoret Sports Club.

Homeboyz, who are seeking to recapture the Stanbic National Sevens Series title, will then take on the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine at 2pm before wrapping up their Pool “A” matches with a date against Menengai Oilers at 4.50pm.

Homeboyz, popularly known as ‘Deejays,’ beat Mwamba 19-12 to win Prinsloo Sevens last weekend in Nakuru. Series champions Kabras Sugar, who won the inaugural Sepetuka Sevens title last year, launch their title defence against 2009 Series champions Strathmore at 10.10am before facing Kisumu at 1pm.

They play Mwamba in their last Pool “B” match at 4.10pm.

Impala Saracens who last won the Series in 2004 face Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad at 9.50am before tackling Catholic University’s Monks at 12.20pm. They will then play Nakuru in their last pool “C” match at 3.30pm.

The 2013 and 2014 Series champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) meet Kisii and Nondies before playing Kenya Harlequin in their last Pool ‘D’ match.

Homeboyz head coach Paul ‘Pau’ Murunga said even though, they have worked on their defence and off-set pieces for a clinical show in Eldoret.

“We were not clinical in our breakdowns and we conceded easy tries in the opening round in Nakuru,” said Murunga, who has made two changes to his squad, bringing in Keith Wasike and Brian Ayimba for Israel Soi and Humphrey Owuor who got injured in Prinsloo Sevens.

Homebooyz, who are the hosts of Sepetuka Sevens, will also be seeking to defend Driftwood and Dala Sevens they won last year in Mombasa and Kisumu respectively.

“Our target is to reclaim the Series title from Kabras Sugar we have still have a long way to go,” said Murunga.
