Kenya to host 2019 Barthes Cup

What you need to know:

  • Kenya to host next year's edition of Bathes Cup.
  • Defending champions Namibia will join hosts, Senegal and Tunisia.
  • Winner of Barthes Cup to take part in 2019 Junior World Rugby Trophy in Brazil.

Rugby Africa has confirmed Kenya as the host of next year’s the Rugby Africa Junior Barthes Trophy in March in Nairobi.

This tournament feature the national under-20 teams from Namibia, Kenya's Chipu, Senegal and Tunisia. Zimbabwe and Madagascar were relegated from Pool A, the top tier, to second division with Senegal and Tunisia replacing them after the 2018 campaign.

The Pool A winner will qualify for the 2019 Junior World Rugby Trophy set for Estádio Martins Pereira in São José dos Campos, Brazil from July 9 until 21 July.

Zimbabwe will host second division of the Africa under-20, also known as Pool B, in April next year. Morocco, Madagascar and Ivory Coast will join the hosts in the week long competition whose winner will be promoted to Pool A.

Rugby Africa is yet to announce the host of third division(Pool C) matches.
