Leopards must be made to pay for Matano’s sacking

What you need to know:

  • Club officials in this country do things as if there is no law in this land or they are above the law. This time round, Matano may teach them a very good lesson by taking them to court for being sacked unprocedurally.
  • Ingwe must be made to pay through the nose to serve as a lesson to all the clubs others of the same folly.
  • The national team itself has been hit by lawsuits due to sacking of coaches without following due process and nobody seems to learn. Matano should not drop this noble quest!

There is a crop of managers whose sole strength lies in sacking or threatening to sack those who serve under them. That is the only way they can survive in their incompetence.

They survive in the corporate world and in public service through simulated harshness and real weakness. Woes betide anyone who finds himself in the power of these puny monsters!

I once met a man who was sacked for looking ugly. He was coming back from leave and had spent the month in the rural area farming. He came back a tan too dark and with a shaven head.

The boss, who had been hen pecked by his wife and was feeling low, told him to his face that he did not possess a corporate look and that he ‘had annoyed everyone’.

Just like that and he lost his job. The poor fellow never attempted to look for another job. Nowadays he sells tomatoes.

It is the same way with house helps who have been fired as a result of the mood of the woman of the house. No wonder some households run by ‘monsters’ have such a high turnover of house helps.

This is the same nonsense that goes on in the Kenya Premier League with poor football coaches. Barely a year ago, one of the most respected coaches in this country, one Robert Matano, was hired by AFC Leopards to save them from worrying performance and possible relegation.

The coach took up the task and not only saved Ingwe from relegation but also led to winning a domestic trophy.

Well, the sweat is dry that accomplished the feat and the big peppered cats must forget!

Two weeks ago, Matano was suspended by the club and the usual nonsense was peddled by one official, Oscar Igaida, who lied to us:  “People are saying that Matano has been fired. He’s not.

He’s been asked to step aside for the Sony Sugar match.”

We asked for facts but the good fellow could only lick his lips, seemingly enjoying the whole episode.

“There were complaints on how he handled the match against Fosa Juniors at home and away, and the team’s current performance. There are many issues that I cannot reveal to you, but they can hurt the team in the long run,” he went on.

Soon enough, we all saw for ourselves that good old Matano had indeed been fired.
