Red card for K’Ogalo boss Rachier: He has let down his gallant players

What you need to know:

  • He was an angel as far as he is concerned.
  • We watched him in awe and he dropped some bombshells and assumptions that we only suspected existed in Kenya.

A few days ago, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier came out blazing.

He was addressing the Gor fraternity, he painted a grim picture of conniving people who were sabotaging the club in cahoots with the players.

He blamed every faceless and nameless persons within the club; he downplayed the crisis in the club; he promised to pay the players their salaries by close of business; he reiterated that he was not aware that the Gor Mahia” coach Dylan Kerr was “unsettled in the club; he denied any wrong doing and threatened to call the executive committee and see if they can oust him.

He said everything except admitting faults on his part.

He was an angel as far as he is concerned. We watched him in awe and he dropped some bombshells and assumptions that we only suspected existed in Kenya.

The main shocker was the attitude that these so called managers of our sports in this country have.

Rachier made it verbal without inkling that he was exposing the folly that runs football in this country. He did a disservice to the other incompetents who never want to be seen.

The chairman said this on the player’s salaries and allowances issue: “The players have gone only a month without pay. They have been paid until 31st July 2018.”

The great man was speaking on 24th September. Those players were going for a second month without pay and super Rachier in his wisdom and logic quipped: “Delayed salaries are not a new thing in Kenya”.

Of course it is not new and the great legal mind wants it to stay like that.

He loves it the old way! You could even see him licking his lips softly as he mouthed that wisdom. Delayed salaries should not be something worth talking or writing about since it has been with us long before King Rachier was born and it must continue and prolonged. The players’ landlords must understand that; the mama mboga and the butcher must give credit to these players; the fare to training ground and school fees of the players’ children must wait; they should beg for the time being since the rich Rachier has decreed it! God save us all.

Some years back, the great Gor Mahia star of yore Austin Oduor gave us a glimpse of how the club players were treated after clinching the Mandela Cup back in 1987.

After the final match against Esperance de Tunis, the officials left with the trophy and the players were abandoned in the Stadium.

Nobody was going to pay the pied piper even though all had called for the tune.

The sweat was dry that had laboured for the team. While everybody was celebrating, the players drank one bottle of beer each courtesy of their captain Austin Oduor. It was that simple and sad.

This time round, it seems after winning the league with seven games to spare, they are not needed anymore.

They have been on the losing streak and they have been absconding training because of the same grievances. We are sure that as soon as the league ends they shall be left to their own devices until the Rachier’s of this country needs them again.

Delayed salaries should not be something to gloss over as Rachier does. It must be something of worry and if he just sleeps with a clear conscience and with no ability to think of any other means that K’Ogalo can make ends meet, then he should just leave the club and shut up.
