ITF high performance centre due for expansion

International Tennis Federation will expand the ITF East Africa High Performance Centre in Nairobi to accommodate more talented players from the continent.
ITF president David Haggerty, who left the country on Friday morning for Kigali, Rwanda after a two-day tour, predicted a bright future for tennis players in the region.
During his tour Haggerty presided over the ground breaking for the Sh1 billion Tennis Kenya Training Centre at Kasarani on Wednesday before meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi.

Haggerty said the ITF finance committee will meet in two weeks’ time in London to not only discuss the high performance centre but also how much they will put into the tennis facility at Kasarani now that it has earned full support of the Kenyan government.
“We have seen how the high performance centre that started as a camp over a year ago has benefited young players and for sure it has to be expanded before even relocating to Kasarani,” said Haggerty.
“ITF must figure out the details and specifics of the project at Kasarani before knowing how much we can put in,” said Haggerty.
