Parents from the Osopuko community have been blamed for the increase number of cases of teenage pregnancies in Kajiado county.13 girls from one village have had to drop out of Osopuko primary school in Kajiado West, as they are expecting to be mothers or have become mothers already.
Of the 13, 4 young girls sat for this year's KCSE examination while nursing their young ones. The recurrent issue is now raising eyebrows with community leaders putting parents on the spot over protecting their children from prying men who are out to ruin their future. During a tour by women leaders in the school, headteacher, Koech Kiplangat said that each year at least 5 girls drop out due to pregnancies, FGM was the main reason they become wives and mothers at a young age.
