Volkswagen is mulling over an idea to produce a second model in Kenya at its Thika Plant and double production to at least 300 vehicles. This has been confirmed by VW's Africa CEO Thomas Schaefer after he met with President Uhuru Kenyatta in South Africa.
The Company begun with the production of Volkswagen Polo Vivo and is now planning to start the production of a mini Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). President Uhuru Kenyatta urged the German car manufacturer to seek price competitiveness. The President who is on a state visit to South Africa also welcomed the announcement of the expansion plans saying it will add to job creation and increasing the manufacturing output of East Africa. VW set up in Kenya in 2016, and launched its first car a year later.
