The Kenya Electricity Generating Company KenGen says that Masinga Dam will be shutdown in the next 60 days if it does not rain, and not the 14 days that was earlier announced by the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Energy. Kengen says that although the water levels in the dam have gone dangerously low due to drought, it is enough to extend the dam's life by another two months. This comes at a time when the government is calling on the Kenya Meteorological Department to monitor, evaluate and provide information on the possibility of a La Nina happening this year, for early planning. Peter Mwangangi reports.
