The government has denied that Tanzania's move to burn 5,000 day old chicks from Kenya had to do with a trade dispute between the countries.
Tanzania's government said the action was taken because the importers, who are Tanzanian, illegally smuggled the chicks out of Kenya via the Namanga border and without documentation.
The chicks were then destroyed in order to curb the spread of bird flu. Three months ago, Tanzania burnt 6,400 day-old chicks impounded at the same border post.
Representatives from both countries met in Mombasa recently to iron out any thorny issues around trade, and GoK downplays claims that there is still a tussle between the two neighbours.
