The Kenya Airports Authority has revealed that it has no title deeds for five of the country's airports and airstrips.
KAA said it is not in possession of the titles for the Kisumu and Eldoret International Airports, and also lacks the said documents for Wilson Airport, Manda and Ukunda Airstrips. The stunning revelation came during a meeting between the National Assembly's Public Investments Committee and KAA's Managing Director, Jonny Andersen. Andersen was hard-pressed to produce the titles, saying that a number of them were in the hands of lawyers executing a sublease. The possession of such titles by private actors puts prime land at risk of being grabbed by land cartels or unscrupulous businessmen, besides the possibility of heavy losses for taxpayers.
