Three Kenya Prisons’ lorries impounded in Eldama Ravine ferrying timber
Three lorries belonging to the Kenya Prisons have been impounded in Eldama Ravine ferrying timber. The lorries were being loaded with freshly cut timber when police officers and CID detectives got wind of it. Initial reports indicate that the wood was being transported to Mombasa. The government imposed a 90 day ban on logging, in an attempt to stop the destruction of Kenya's forests. Unscrupulous traders and government officials however, have turned to using government vehicles to transport the goods and evade scrutiny. Just last week, a lorry belonging to the Administration Police was impounded in Kilifi with charcoal and another in West Pokot, ferrying freshly felled cedar wood.
